WZR Scenario – Aren’t you a little short for a Venusian Ranger?

Here you have a Warzone Resurrection scenario created by Andy Lukavich. We hope that it is to your liking and you can enjoy it in your gaming tables.

Private Samuel McDonald hefted the last ammo crate from the supply truck into the tent that was being used for equipment storage. The hot Venusian morning and cooking him in his armor, and waterfalls of sweat were running down the back of his
neck. He had shed his Invader Assault Rifle, along with the rest of his Mk1 Light Combat Armor, nearby in the shade. This far into camp he felt he felt there would be plenty of time to gather his gear in case of attack.

He had just sat down on a nearby crate to take a large pull from his canteen when he saw a small squad of the illustrious Blood Berets strolling through camp towards the commander’s tent. This was a common enough sight so he thought to pay it no attention when he noticed a large bloody stain covering the back of one of the Beret’s back. Three large bullet holes, one almost big enough to put a fist through, dotted the armored back of the Blood Beret. Chunky red fluid was just drying from the largest hole, but he could clearly see a glisten indicating it wasn’t completely dry yet. Something felt dodgy here.

He stood up. “Hey, do you need a medic?” he shouted in their direction. The Blood Berets all stopped and looked in his direction. One of them detached from the group and raised a hand in greeting. He stopped in front of Samuel and pointed at the Blood Beret Samuel has been looking at. He looked like he was about to say something when quick as lightning the Blood Beret next to Samuel wiped out his combat knife and plunged it deeply from lower jaw into the brain stem of Private Samuel Mc-Donald.

Looking around, the Blood Beret checked to see if this activity had attracted anyone’s attention. Seeing no signs of alarm, he sharply yanked the blade free and grabbed the dead body so it would made a soft landing. He then walked back to the other four Blood Berets.

SCENARIO

Deception! The attacking force has captured armor and equipment belonging to the defender’s faction and is trying to infiltrate their lines. Their objective is unknown, but they have gone to great lengths in order to succeed.

The infiltrators may choose one unit from the following squads based on the faction they are fighting:

  • Bauhaus: Hussars, Venusian Ranger (max unit size of 5).
  • Brotherhood: Brotherhood Trooper, Valkyrie (max unit size of 5) (This does not allow for use of the Art).
  • Capitol: Light Infantry, Free Marine (max unit size of 5).
  • Cybertronic: Cuirassiers, Mirror Man (max unit size of 5) (Note: no cybernetic upgrades may be taken).
  • Dark Legion: Undead Legionnaire (max unit size of 10), Heretics (This does not allow for use of Dark Symmetry).
  • Imperial MOW: Trenchers, Blood Berets (max unit size of 5).
  • Imperial Wolfbane: Wolfbane Commandos, Mourning Wolves.
  • Mishima: Ashiguru, Crimson Devils (max unit size of 5, includes ReBreathers) (No Ki power upgrades).

SPECIAL RULES

Attacker: Pick a Squad from your own forces and pay the appropriate base point costs for them. For purposes of this scenario you are using all of this unit’s statics except for Armor. Then apply the equipment from the chosen enemy force to this squad. This will give your squad the A statistic and the weapons options. All special abilities of the core unit may still be used, only their equipment has changed. You may choose to upgrade equipment based off the chosen faction’s squad upgrade options. You may not add characters or advisors to this squad.

For Example: Andy is playing Mishima against his opponent’s Bauhaus force. He chooses to use a team of Crimson Devils to infiltrate his opponent. He pays the base cost of 80 points for 5 Crimson Devils. He then decides that the unit will be Venusian Rangers so he uses their Armor score of 22.

He then decides to purchase an ARG-17 Rocket launcher and Camouflage cloaks, bringing the total cost for this unit to 110. Since he is using the Crimson Devils he still has all their abilities: Dissention, Oni ReBreather, etc.

The false squad may not be targeted by the opponent while they are out of 24” LOS of the model wanting to shoot. If the false squad is between 13” – 24”, they may be shot at with a successful Leadership roll – 8. Between 7” and 12” they may be shot at with a successful leadership roll – 4. They may freely be targeted when closer than 6” or if they attack the enemy force.

SETUP

On a 4x4 feet Table measure 6 inches in both directions from the middle of the table. This is the defenders deployment zone. On a 6x4 feet table measure 12 inches from the middle in both directions. The defender will pick a table edge on either flank and deploy within 6 inches of the edge (12 inches on a 6x4 table).

Defender always deploys first. Then the attacker may deploy their false squad anywhere on the table with except:

  • In the defenders deployment zone.
  • Must be at least 6 inches away from the defender’s deployment zone.

The attacker now sets up the rest of their forces.

The defender will now place 3 token clearly marked 1 – 3 anywhere within their deployment line, but it must be at least 6 inches away from any board edge. This represents a ToI (Target of Interest – which could be equipment, a person, a piece
of intelligence).

At the beginning of the game the attacker unit rolls a D20 and secretly notes the results. This roll is to determine the objective:

  • 1-5: Token 1.
  • 6-10: Token 2.
  • 11-15: Token 3.
  • 16-20: Assassination! Your target was the army commander all along.

Roll for initiative as normal to determine which squad goes first.

DEPLOYMENT OPTIONS

Regular, Rapid Deployment, Infiltrate, Preemptive Strike.

MISSION PARAMETERS

The attacker has 4 turns to complete their objective. If at the end of any turn the attacker is in Base 2 Base contact with the token and there are no defender models within 6 inches of the token, the attack wins. If by the end of turn 4 the attacker has not completed their objective then the defender wins.

Secondary and Faction objectives may be used.
